This Robot Wakes Up

Dec. 29, 2021
This articulated robot, created by Engineered Arts, mimics human emotion.

Robotic technology has advanced significantly, but we’re not quite up to positronic brains for humanoid robots. Engineered Arts has been showing off its Ameca robot (see the video), which is a platform for developing robot technologies. Its upper torso has the capability to present facial expressions—the torso and upper limbs are articulated and on par with human movement.

The robot’s modular design allows for upgrades to be incorporated. The software is based on Engineered Arts’ Tritium platform. It provides telepresence support and enables configuration and operation without the need for programming, although that’s an option as well.

You can even rent one now.
