Announced as an industry first, the company has squeezed a 512 Kb, I2C compatible serial EEPROM into an eight-pad, dual flat no-lead (DFN) package measuring 6 mm x 5 mm. The 24LC512, 24AA512, and 24FC512 EEPROMs employ a proprietary PMOS electrically erasable cell (PEEC) process technology that renders packages measuring just 0.9 mm thick. The devices are also available in eight-lead PDIP, eight-lead SOIC, and 14-pin TSSOPs. Each device has a page-write capability up to 128 bytes and can perform random reads throughout the entire array. Their address lines allow up to eight devices on the same bus for a maximum of 4 Mb of total address space. Additional features include a write time of 5 ms, 400 KHz clock rate across their operating voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, up to 1,000,000 erase/write cycles at 85°C, data retention up to 200 years, and an operating temperature range from –40°C to +85°C. The 24FC512 operates at a bus speed of 1 MHz over the same voltage and temperature range, and the low-voltage 24AA512 operates on 1.8V to 5.5V. Pricing for the 24LC512 and 24AA512 is $1.83 each/10,000 and for the 24FC512 is $1.88 each/ 10,000. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (480) 792-7668.
