Aimed at designers of consumer electronics and industrial control applications, the MC9S08QG8/QG4 8-bit MCUs integrate an 8-channel, 10-bit analog-to-digital converter with temperature sensor as well as a raft of other peripherals. These include synchronous and asynchronous serial peripherals (SPI, IIC, SCI) and an analog comparator module (ACMP). Timer options include an 8-bit modulo timer module (MTIM) and 2-channel Timer/PWM module (TPM). To keep power consumption low, the MCUs contain an accurate, low-power internal clock generator, but also support external clock source inputs from 32 kHz up to 20 MHz. The devices include a background debugging system and on-chip in-circuit emulation with real-time bus capture. Based on the company's HCS08 core, the MCUs run at up to 20 MHz with a 10 MHz bus at greater than 2.1V operation and 16 MHz with an 8 MHz bus at less than 2.1V. Price of the MC9S08QG4 is $0.89 and for the MC9S08QG8 is $0.99 with 1K flash and the least expensive package type. The devices also have 4K and 8K flash options.
