MCU Support ICs Add ISP Flash & Programmable Logic To 8051s

External, in-system programmable (ISP) flash memory and programmable logic can be added to 5V, 8-bit CISC designs without appreciably increasing power consumption by using a family of five ZPSD813F MCU support ICs. The parts are offered in a variety of architectures, all of which offer 128 kbytes of 100% ISP flash memory, a 3000-gate CPLD, extra I/O, a JTAG programming interface, and a programmable MCU interface, plus varying combinations of flash EEPROM and SRAM. The devices are claimed to be the first of their type to offer a JTAG interface for quick and painless first-time programming, as well as subsequent field updates. A special on-chip ISP decoding and re-mapping PLD is said to radically simplify parallel ISP in MCU-based systems.
