With the IM2000 microstepping controller, users can switch microstep resolution on the fly with no jerks of velocity or bumps of position with the transition. This feature permits higher machine productivity by allowing a high resolution to be selected for positioning and then a lower resolution selected for higher slew speeds. An internal sine/cosine generator maintains control of full step positions and provides on-full-step output signals, which can be used by the host processor to greatly reduce the overhead of position calculation. Fourteen selectable microstep resolutions in both binary and decimal are available up to 256 microsteps/step. The monolithic ASIC comes packaged in either a 68-pin PLCC or an 80-pin QFP.
