Power semiconductor supplier IXYS Corp. has reorganized its wholly owned subsidiary, Directed Energy Inc. (DEI) to create a new RF division within the company. According to IXYS, the expanding portfolio of semiconductor products developed at DEI specifically for RF power applications, in conjunction with an aggressive strategy of product & market share growth, has necessitated the creation of the IXYS RF division. Meanwhile, DEI remains as a wholly owned subsidiary and a division of IXYS Corporation, focused on the development, design, marketing and sales of innovative high-speed, pulsed-power instruments and systems for OEM, laboratory and manufacturing applications. George Krausse, the founder of DEI along with Mike Lincoln, director of marketing, will lead the RF division.

The new division will develop leading edge RF MOSFETs, RF driver ICs, GaAs devices, and RF modules for medical, imaging, cable TV, and communications markets. To become a significant player in the RF arena, the developer will leverage its parent company's power semiconductor strength. "This is the true meaning of synergy," said Nathan Zommer, CEO of Ixys, in a statement. "Ixys RF is the result of a philosophy of entrepreneurial and innovative spirits at IXYS and DEI. We will bring the same creative unique industry leading products to the RF market that IXYS has to the power MOSFET market."
