Emerson Network Power has added a new 48 V model to its popular Astec NTS Series line of 350 W bulk ac-dc switching power supplies. Available with convection cooling or optional forced-air, the compact units are ideally suited for product designs using distributed power architecture. Weighing in at 8.3 W/cu in., the high-density NTS358 models feature a compact 4-in. x 7-in. footprint and typically operate at 85% efficiency. The convection-cooled models work well in 1 U (1.75-in. high) rack-mount chassis or other low-profile applications.

Featuring active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the Astec NTS358 is a compact 85-264 Vac power supply that can deliver its full rated output of 350 W with 30 CFM forced air or 200 W with convection cooling. The devices are also suited for use as ac-dc front ends for dc-dc converters in a wide variety of applications including telecommunications, networking, test and measurement, single-board computers and gigabit Ethernet devices.

A built-in Oring diode eliminates the need for external circuitry when using the unit in a redundant configuration. For maximum versatility, units are also available with a top cover fan designated by a –CF suffix on the model number and can be set up for lengthwise or crosswise airflow, giving designers layout flexibility. The device also features a 12-V, 1-A auxiliary output and 5-V, 2-A standby output as well as overload, over-voltage and thermal protection.

The Astec NTS358 models include a built-in Class B EMI filter, remote sense, remote inhibit and single-wire parallel on the primary output that enables current-sharing to balance loads. With an operating temperature range of 0°C to 50°C without derating, the units can function up to 70°C by derating the output 2.5% per degree C. They comply with IEC EN61000-3-2 harmonic and IEC EN61000-4-X susceptibility standards.

Designed for long life and trouble-free operation, the NTS models have a demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 1 million hr at full load in 25°C ambient conditions as well as excellent vibration tolerance. They also comply with worldwide safety and performance standards from UL, CSA, VDE, NEMKO, AUSTEL, CB and CE.

They are available now, and pricing begins at $299.00 in OEM quantities.
