Valere Power has debuted its LP DC Power System, a low-power dc power system that is compact and cost-effective enough to power fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or business telecommunications service installations that need high-quality power with battery backup. The LP Power System squeezes rectifiers, power distribution and battery back-up capacity into a compact 5U-high (8.6-in.-high × 6.43-in.-deep) package that is half the size of competing systems.

The LP Power System’s small package gives service providers a new option for CPE power deployment in voice-based FTTH or business communications services that need to have battery backed-up power. The LP Power System provides up to 7 A of 54-Vdc power, with redundant ac-dc power rectifiers for increased reliability. The integrated power distribution is fully connectorized for reduced field wiring time and offers eight fuse positions. The system can be wall or rack mounted.

An optional battery enclosure for up four batteries providing up to 12 A/hr of reserve power is also available. The battery enclosure can be flexibly deployed either at the same time as the power system or at a later date.

“In many new installations, deploying fiber right up to the customer premises gives carriers much more flexibility to deploy high-value services, and micro power systems are a cost-effective way to power these installations,” said Greg Fasullo, Valere Power co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing. “With the LP DC Power System, we’ve been able to leverage our technology strengths to really increase the value provided through reduced size and lower maintenance and power costs.”

The LP Power System is available with either 1-A, 4-A or 7-A rectifiers. All rectifiers are hot-swappable for easy upgrades and replacements. The system is NEBS Level 3 compliant, can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 65°C, and offers a mean time between failure (MTBF) of more than 1 million hr.

The LP DC Power System is now available. System price starts at $500 for a 1-A redundant system.
