Step-down Controller Accepts Wide Input Voltage Range
The SiP12102 synchronous step-down controller from Siliconix generates an adjustable 0.6-V to 5-V output while operating from an input of 2.7 V to 28 V. When paired with two external n-channel MOSFETs and a handful of external components, the controller delivers up to 10 A of output. Operating at a 500-kHz switching frequency, the SiP12102 can achieve 95% efficiency.
Packaged in an MLP33-10 package, the chip uses a single pin to control compensation-and-shutdown functions. The device also features soft-start, output current limit, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown.
Siliconix is offering another version of this controller, the SiP12103 for applications operating from a 2.7-V to 5-V input range at loads up to just 5 A. Unlike the SiP12102, this controller works with a p-channel high-side MOSFET and an n-channel low-side MOSFET. However, it shares the other features noted above and also adds a power good indicator.
