Galaxy Power of Westborough, Mass., has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by New Jersey-based Bel Fuse for approximately $18 million in cash and the assumption of approximately $2 million dollars of liabilities. A private company, Galaxy designs and manufactures high-density dc-dc converters (bricks) for distributed power and telecommunications applications. Bel and its subsidiaries design, manufacture and sell magnetic components, power modules such as nonisolated dc-dc converters and integrated analog front ends, circuit protection components and interconnect devices. These components target applications in networking, telecom, high-speed data transmission, automotive and consumer electronics.
"Joining forces with Bel is a natural fit that holds benefits for both companies and our customers," stated Galaxy’s president, Lou DeBartelo. "Galaxy brings a wealth of technical capabilities and high-performance isolated converter products while Bel brings low-cost, high-volume manufacturing and a broad portfolio of nonisolated products. Together, the merged organization yields a synergistic blend of technical talent, manufacturing capability and customer relationships."
