In order to comply with the European Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), Vicor has redesigned its second-generation dc-dc converter platform to be RoHS compliant. As a result, production of certain older, non-compliant dc-dc converter products will be discontinued at the end of 2005.
The list of discontinued products includes all Vicor model numbers beginning with V24, V48, V300 or V375 that have an “A” in the last four characters. Two examples would be the V24A15C400AL2 and the V375C5C100AL2T. The company also will discontinue all Vicor model numbers beginning with VI-7, VI-8 or VI-9 that do not have a “B” as the last character, such as the VI-710211, VI-810102, and VI-911234.
The new RoHS-compliant platform is called “FasTrak.” Customers using any model within the discontinued product families referenced above will be supported with the FasTrak alternatives. For instance, for customers using a model beginning with V24, V48, V300 or V375 (a “Predefined” model), FasTrak models are now available with a new part number. The new part number replaces the “A” at the end of the old part number with a “B” (e.g., old part number V24A5C400AL is replaced by new part number V24A5C400BL). Customers who require samples of the “B” versions for evaluation should contact their local Vicor representative.
Customers who are using a model beginning with VI-7, VI-8 or VI-9 (a “User Defined” model) also should contact their Vicor representative about conversion to the FasTrak platform. Vicor notes that it may be unable to convert the customer’s model without minimum production requirements. User Defined models converted to FasTrak will have a “B” suffix added to the part number (e.g., VI-710211 would become the VI-710211B).
In cases where conversion to FasTrak is not possible, or where a customer is unable to change part numbers, Vicor will offer a last-time buy opportunity. Last time buy orders must be placed by June 30, 2005, with delivery scheduled no later than Dec. 31, 2005.
