Integrating GPS with cellular measurements, CSR has created eGPS (enhanced Global Positioning System) technology capable of providing accurate position information on demand in all environments. CSR claims that the technology’s universal availability of location information, increased responsiveness, and reduced power consumption make eGPS far more appropriate for use in mobile handset than current GPS technologies.
CSR will demonstrate eGPS and its ability to deliver real-time navigation embedded in a mobile handset at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Feb. 11-14. The demonstrations will show how the technology can easily be embedded into a slim-line handset while minimizing power usage and avoiding conflicts with other handset technologies. The system will go head-to-head against assisted GPS (A-GPS) in a live cellular network.
“Along with last month’s announcement of the intention to form the EGPS Forum with Motorola, our working silicon and demonstrations at Mobile World Congress are all significant steps on CSR’s roadmap towards adding high performance, yet power-efficient eGPS to cellular phones at an additional cost of less than $1,” said CSR’s CEO, Joep van Beurden. “Our patented eGPS technologies are ready to change the market for location technologies in mobile handsets.”
