Smartphone Power IC Integrates 32bit ARM Processor

Claimed as a first, Dialog Semiconductor will integrate a standard 32bit processor into a mixed-signal power-management IC (PMIC).

Kirchheim/Teck, Germany: Claimed as a first, Dialog Semiconductor will integrate a standard 32bit processor into a mixed-signal power-management IC (PMIC). To do so, the company licensed the ARM Cortex-M0 processor for use in future generations of its PMICs.

Dialog believes such a combination improves digital-processing capabilities, enabling system-level PMICs to extend power-control and precision battery-management functions for portable devices. The PMICs, aimed at high-end, multicore-application, processor-based platforms, also should increase battery life.

The ARM Cortex-M0 processor is the smallest and lowest-power ARM core available.
