SIP4-Packaged 3W DC-DCs Boost Power, Density

A series of single-output, 3W dc-dc converters developed by Murata Power Solutions increases power output by 50%.

Mansfield, Mass., USA: A series of single-output, 3W dc-dc converters developed by Murata Power Solutions increases power output by 50%. Key to this advance is that the new MEE3 series devices are housed in the same SIP4 package as the company’s 2W devices.

The single-in-line 4-pin (SIP4) package is much smaller than the dual-in-line 24-pin package (DIP24) traditionally used for other 3W converters. Consequently, power density increases 200%, from 0.9W to 2.68W per cubic cm.

Two modules within the series offer inputs of either 5 or 12V dc. The popular nominal outputs of 5, 9, 12, or 15 V dc are available across the full MEE3 range. Typical converter efficiency ranges from 83% to 89% and is model-dependent. They require no additional forced air cooling or heatsinks. Load regulation typically ranges from 2.7% to 6.3%.

These fully encapsulated units offer 1000V input-to-output isolation. In addition, they can deliver full power across the industrial operating temperature range of -40 to + 85°C.

The MEE3 series, which complies with the international UL/EN 60950 safety standard for IT equipment, suits a wide range of industrial and telecommunications applications. Moreover, the converters provide a pin-compatible power upgrade path from Murata Power Solutions’ 1W NKE/NME and 2W NML series.
