ECIA Reports North America Capacitor Market Starts 2015 Down

ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association) reports total sales for all capacitor categories in North America for the period January through April 2015 were down 7% in units and down 3% in dollars compared to the same 4 months in calendar year 2014. Forty-Four percent (44%) of capacitor sales for the reported period were shipped into the distribution channel. Total reported bookings for all capacitor categories in North America were down 9% in units and 8% in dollars January through April 2015 compared to the same period in 2014. Book to Bill was .98 in units and 1.05 in dollars. See the graph below for the month by month comparisons.

For the first 4 months of 2015, sales were up for the paper and film category and the aluminum category while only the aluminum category saw unit growth compared to the first 4 months of 2014. Booking dollars were only up for the paper and film category while units were up for the paper and film and aluminum categories. The chart below provides category details.
