The MAX17083, a low-voltage, step-down regulator with an internal boost switch, ensures high efficiency in space-constrained applications. The device integrates dual n-channel MOSFET power switches in a small, 16mm2 TQFN package. Supporting a continuous load current up to 5 A, the internal 25 milliohm, low-side power MOSFETs offer high efficiency while reducing component count. For further space and cost savings, the MAX17803 eliminates the need for external Schottky diodes, as well as an external boost diode. This small step-down regulator is suitable for ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs), netbooks, portable gaming devices, and other low-power, compact applications.

The MAX17803 uses a current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide an easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also provides peak-current-limit protection and operates in pulse-skipping mode to maintain high efficiency under light load conditions. This step-down regulator produces an adjustable 0.75 to 2.7 V output from the system's 3.3 or 5 V input supply. It is available in a 4 x 4 mm, 24-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40° to 85° C extended temperature range. An evaluation kit with recommended external components is available to reduce design time. For more information, visit Maxim Integrated Products.
