Integrated 600 A, 35 kV elbow surge arresters from Tyco Electronics Corp. protect underground cables and medium-voltage equipment from overvoltage surges from lightning and switching. They combine gapless metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology into a fully shielded, fully submersible 600 A elbow configuration. The integrated arresters eliminate the need for bushing extenders and 200 A load break interface arresters. The unitary design not only simplifies inventory and speeds assembly, but also saves space in cabinets, reduces the cantilever forces on the assembly, and increases safety through design innovations.

The elbow arresters use high-energy MOV blocks in a glass-filled epoxy laminate. The arresters will stay attached to the bushing during a fault, which enhances safety. Fully shielded and submersible, the arresters offer safe and predictable performance under the harshest conditions. The arresters are qualified to the latest revisions of IEEE C62.11 and 386 and are compatible with 600 A bushings meeting IEEE 386.
