TDK-Lambda Americas announces a new line of “green” 250-W power supplies that comply with the European energy saving requirements of the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive. Suitable for use in industrial, broadcast, and communications applications, the GWS250 series of ac-dc power supplies feature high efficiency, high power density, low standby power consumption (<0.5 W, no-load), and a five-year warranty. The GWS250 is suited for indoor and outdoor applications, such as LED information displays, digital signage, traffic controls, test and measurement, and audio/visual systems.
Featuring a 4.1 x 7.8 in. footprint and less than 1 U height (1.61 in.), the GWS250 is a compact, convection-cooled power supply that fits into spaces previously requiring fan-cooled supplies. Rated at 250 W, the new series is available in four models with outputs of 12, 24, 36, and 48 V. Outputs are user adjustable by up to 20% depending on the model, and the 24 and 36-V models have a peak power rating of 300 W.
With a flat efficiency curve averaging 92.7% from 25% to 100% load, the GWS250 series can be operated at full load from -25 to 50° C ambient temperature and up to 70° C with suitable derating. Because the GWS250 is convection-cooled and does not have a fan, it is well suited for applications requiring low audible noise, as well as for equipment where long life is a critical factor, such as in remote locations and dusty environments.
The GWS250 series includes overvoltage, overtemperature, and overcurrent protection. Models also feature <0.5 W no-load power consumption, 5 V/0.3 A standby output, remote on/off, dc GOOD signal and a programmable output function.
Products are CE marked in accordance with the LV Directive, and include several environmental and safety approvals including EN55022 and FCC Class B, UL60950-1, CSA C22.2 No.60950-1-07 (cUL), EN60950-1 edition 2 and IEC60950-1.
