CompactPCI Backplanes Permit Greater Package Densities

Oct. 1, 2002

CompactPCI chassis card densities can be increased and overall costs reduced with a new, reduced-width line of backplanes. These include 3U and 6U reduced-width models that embrace two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-slot versions. They meet PICMG 2.0 Rev. 3.0 standards and provide a right-hand system slot position. Also compliant with Revision 2 of the PICMG 2.1 hot-swap specification, the backplanes support 33- and 66-MHz operation. Signaling I/O is selectable between 3.3V and 5V and power is via 6.35 mm fastons and M4 power bugs. Power supply monitoring and system management functions are via a 10-way service header. Options include 32-bit and 64-bit versions and CT/H.110 routing to PICMG 2.5 Rev. 1.0 for the four-, five-, and six-slot backplanes. Price for a four-slot, 3U backplane starts at $315 each and for a two-slot, 6U backplane starts at $402 each. TRIPLE E CORP., Lowell, MA. (978) 453-0600.
