Bus Interconnect Gives GPIB Instruments FireWire Compatibility

Sept. 1, 1998

An easy way of linking computers equipped with an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port to GPIB instruments is made possible with the GPIB-1394 interface. This plug-and-play IEEE 488.2 interface for Windows 98 PCs is said to be easy to configure and use because it is hot pluggable and has no DIP switches- the self-powered interface is automatically recognized and configured by the operating system as soon as it is attached to a PC's 1394 port.GPIB-1394 interface is compatible with S400, S200 and S100 data rates and with industry-standard instrumentation software such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and ComponentWorks for Visual Basic. It implements the full range of GPIB controller functions, including those required and recommended by IEEE 488.2.
