The PCM1732 is claimed as the world’s first single-chip High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD) audio d/a converter. The device combines HDCD decoding and precision digital filtering with the firm’s audio DAC technology in a single IC. It targets a wide range of high-end consumer audio applications.HDCD-encoded CDs are said to sound better because they’re encoded with 20 bits of real musical information as compared to 16 bits for standard CDs. The PCM1732 accepts 16/20/24-bit input data formats. It processes 24 bits internally and has single-ended analog outputs to reduce the number of external components. Operation is from a single 5V supply.
