AXSEM AG’s first third-generation high-performance SRD transceiver IC, the AX5043, features 9.5 mA receive current and -126 dBm sensitivity, making it the lowest power high performance transceiver in the field. It accommodates the requirements of the narrow-band standards in Europe and the U. S., as well as in most Asian countries including Japan and Korea. In contrast to generation two transceivers, it covers frequencies continuously from 70 to 1050 MHz. It is packaged in 5-by-5 mm2 QFN28 package. The AX5043 uses an enhanced AXSEM standard register set and comes with a micro-programmable 256-Byte FIFO, which allows repeating of bytes or waiting for match conditions. The device has a differential RX/TX RF-port as well as a single-ended TX port for use with external power amplifiers. The maximum output power without external amplification lies between 16 and 20 dBm, depending on the frequency. Neighbor-channel rejection is 45 dB. The data rate can be chosen from 1 to 100 kbps and many modulation schemes are implemented (ASK, FSK, 4-FSK, OQPSK, MSK, GFSK BT=0.3 or BT=0.5). The AX5043 can be configured to natively understand most common RF communication protocols such as wireless M-bus for 868 MHz or 169 MHz. An integrated packet engine comes with a duty-cycle-unit. In an asynchronous duty-cycle-mode, a typical average receive current is about 5 μA. The internal voltage regulator allows supply voltages from 1.8 - 3.6 V. Standby current is a mere 400 nA.
