Dynamic Gain Equalizer Uses Diffractive MEMS Technology

Said to be the first MEMS-based dynamic gain equalizer (DGE) for long haul and ultra long haul dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems, the DGE1020 employs diffractive-MEMS (D-MEMS) technology. When used in a feedback loop, the DGE dynamically compensates amplifier gain profiles to enable a high signal-to-noise ratio for all channels in the optical system.Intended for use with Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and Raman amplifiers, the device is said to consume little power, require no temperature control, and measures just 64 mm x 96 mm x 16mm. Features include an operating wavelength range from 1,528 nm to 1,570 nm, a wavelength step response of 15 dB in 4 nm, maximum attenuation of 15 dB, an insertion loss of less than 6 dB, a polarization dependent loss of less than 0.25 dB, residual ripple of less than 0.30 dB, and a speed of less than 50 µs.
