Standard I/O Chip Targets Enterprise Printing Systems

Sept. 1, 2001

The new L1500 is a highly integrated peripheral I/O device designed to address the rising demand for reliable, high-bandwidth connections in networked laser printers, digital copiers and multi-function peripherals. Representing the first member of the ComCentrix family of ICs, the L1500 is expected to significantly reduce system development time as well as component count. Features include: a 10/100 Ethernet MAC; a USB 1.1 compliant device controller with FIFOs for 12 active USB endpoints; an IEEE 1284 parallel port with transmit and receive FIFOs; and an IRDA port. All have integrated DMA controllers. In addition, the chip includes two UARTs, two independent and programmable timers, and 16 general-purpose I/Os. And for added flexibility, the I/O chip uses the industry-standard 32-bit, 33 MHz PCI bus. Based on the companyÕs G12 0.18-micron process and housed in a 208-pin PQFP package, the L1500 is priced at less than $15 each/10,000. LSI LOGIC CORP., Milpitas, CA. (866) 574-5741.
