Modem Chipset Connects To USB Ports

The Pegas.usB modem chipset, which connects to a standard USB port, complies with ITU V.90 standards for connection speeds up to 56 kbps. The set consists of just two ICs: the ST7554 USB world modem controller and STLC7550 modem analog front end, both of which come in TQFPs.A modem built with these chips can be housed inside a small and inexpensively manufactured "dongle," it's claimed. Power draw is less than 50 mA in operation and 500 µA in suspend mode. As a result, power can be supplied directly from the USB port. The chips are also ready for the V.80 videophone standard and include support for automatic identification of voice, fax or modem calls.
