Fibre Channel Limiting Amp Supports Dual Data Rates

Debuting as the only dual-rate Fibre Channel limiting amplifier on the market, the MAX3274 operates on 3.3V and supports data rates of 1.0625 Gb/s and 2.125 Gb/s. The chip integrates a fourth-order Bessel Thompson filter, which provides a bandwidth-select function and suppresses relaxation oscillation from legacy CD-laser based transmitters. Other specifications include a 10 mV input sensitivity, power consumption of less than 260 mW, a bandwidth of 1.7 GHz at 2 Gb/s and 890 MHz at 1 Gb/s, and a programmable signal-detect function that can be set to different assert and de-assert levels. Deterministic jitter is stated as 10 ps and random jitter is 3.8 ps at 2 Gb/s. Input voltages range from 10 mV to 1.2V and typical output is 1.2V.
