Ribbon Cables Come Ready-To-Use

For Ultra DMA-compliant drives that support data transfer rates of 33 or 66 MB/s at full burst rate, the firm's Ultra IDE ribbon cables are backward-compatible with all legacy IDE systems. The latest IDE drives have the same IDC40 connector as the regular IDE, but use a half-pitch 80-wire internal cable, effectively providing two wires to each pin. The extra wire is grounded to provide better isolation of the data wire to reduce crosstalk and improve data integrity.
