Signal errors are said to be virtually eliminated during hot swaps with a new, enhanced connector for SCSI bus applications. A multi-conductivity gradient is employed on the connector contacts-here, a highly-resistive material is added to the ends of the connector contacts, with the high resistance eliminating the initial voltage transient as the connector is hot-plugged. The resistance of the contact gradually decreases, reaching the milliohm range before full engagement is achieved. In the lab, the firm built and tested a working Champ Series 1 SCA-2 connector with dual connectivity contacts. Samples are expected to be available by mid-year 1999.
