PWM Controllers Perform Multiple Supply Tasks

Designed for use in LCD PCs, the FAN5232 adjustable PWM buck controller is said to allow designers to replace silver-box style, multiple voltage power supplies with a low-part count circuit running from a standard ac wall adapter or battery pack. The chip provides a 12V adjustable output and two regulated, always-on fixed outputs of 3.3V and 5V, capable 50 mA. Via a synchronous PWM architecture, the device accepts input voltages from 5.6V to 24V and provides a conversion efficiency up to 96% under typical conditions. Other features include power-good indication, independent shutdown for ACPI interfaces, output enable/soft start, under-voltage lockout, output overvoltage protection, and adjustable current limiting.
