32-Bit RISC MCU Has Portables Under Its Thumb

A deft combination of low power consumption, 32-bit performance and 16-bit system cost make the AT91M40400 microcontroller a candidate for portable, hand-held systems, consumer electronics, and computer peripherals. The embedded ARM7TDMI 32-bit RISC processor implements a high-code-density, 16-bit Thumb instruction set. It delivers 30-MIPS performance, is fully static, and operates at up to 33 MHz from voltages in the 2.7V to 3.6V range.Other features include 4 kbytes of SRAM and a single-cycle, fully programmable 16-bit external bus interface that boosts memory access speed while reducing overall system cost.
