Mini SMT ZIF Connectors Mate With Flat Cables

June 1, 1999

Compact, high-density applications such as cameras, VCRs, notebook computers, and pagers represent the key markets for a new series of miniature surface-mount connectors that mate with flexible flat cables. Series FX zero-insertion-force (ZIF) connectors have a contact pitch of 0.012" and a mounting height of only 0.089", with mounting facilitated by use of 0.024" wide leads in dual 0.012" rows. A flip-lock actuator attaches the flexible cable to the connector. FX connector contacts are made of a phosphor bronze material with selective gold plating and are rated at 0.2A ac/dc (50V ac/dc). The housing is a LPC material rated UL94V-0. The connectors come in 15-, 21-, 27-, 33-, 39- and 51-position versions and are packaged on embossed tape reels for mounting by automatic insertion equipment.
