The shrouded 1.27-mm pitch connector sets now have options that increase separation force and reduce contact cost. The latching, or locking, feature does not permanently lock connectors together. Instead, it raises the separation force by up to four times the standard non-latching system. A new three-finger contact, stamped and formed from a phosphor bronze alloy, is a lower-cost alternative to the beryllium copper contacts.
