DC/DC Converter Eyes Notebook Computer Systems

The ADP3020 dual dc/dc converter can be used to power all the systems in notebook computers except the processor core. The device is a dual synchronous buck-switching controller, said to be optimized for converting battery or adapter inputs into system supply voltages. With a 96% power efficiency, the component accepts input sources ranging from 4.5V to 25V. In shutdown and standby, currents are 7 µA and 250 µA, respectively. The device operates at 200, 300 and 400 kHz and can be synchronized to an external clock up to 600 kHz. Available in a TSSOP-38 package, pricing is $3.37 each/1,000.
