Chip Enhances Performance of DC-DC Converters In Large Arrays

Sept. 1, 2000

Said to enhance the performance of the company's second-generation dc/dc converters when used in large arrays, the Phased Array Controller (PAC) controls up to 12 converters. Implemented in a single chip, the PAC causes each converter to process power conversion pulses in sequence. Such phasing is said to reduce input current ripple and output voltage ripple, thus significantly reducing the input filter requirements of high- power, multiple module arrays. All PR and PC pins of the second-generation dc/dc converters are connected to the PAC chip, which supports current sharing in the fault tolerant, synchronous array.
