Advanced Battery Charger And Battery Monitor ICs Debut (1)

Nov. 1, 2000

Designed to charge one- and two-cell lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries, the bq2400x series of ICs is said to reduce the size of full battery charger circuits by more than 55%. Unlike competitive charge management ICs, the new chips contain a 1.2A MOSFET pass transistor as well as a reverse-current blocking Schottky diode, with the dropout voltage for the combined devices said to be just 0.7V (max.). With this high degree of integration and performance, designers can build a full battery charger circuit with a 44 mm2 footprint, compared to the 78 mm2 or more for competing charger solutions, the company says.
Prices for the bq2400x charge management ICs housed in a 20-lead TSSOP PowerPAD package start at $1.89 each/1,000. See "Advanced Battery Charger And Battery Monitor ICs Debut (2)".
