Touch-Sensitive Switch Has No Moving Parts Or Electrical Contacts

Jan. 1, 2001

Fully sealed against harsh environments, operator abuse, vandalism and extreme washdown or submersion, the solid-sate Series 75 CT 1B front-mounting, touch-sensitive switch has no moving parts or electrical contacts. The switch is touted as a rugged alternative to piezoelectric, capacitance, and touch-screen approaches for a variety of indoor and outdoor public access, process control and transportation applications.
The switch has a 20-mm diameter active area made of nickel plated brass and mounts in a standard 22.5-mm hole. It requires no activation force and is activated by a light touch, which changes a high frequency signal and triggers a detection circuit. The switches are designed for activation through virtually any non-conductor. The standard switch is sealed to IP66 standards and is fitted with an HE14, 3-pin, 2.54-mm pitch connector and a 25-mm threaded lock nut. The device operates at 4.5 Vdc to 25 Vdc. Pricing is approximately $14.00 each/1,000.
