10-Bit ADC Claims Sampling Speed Record

Three versions of a new high-speed, 10-bit A/D converter offer a range of sampling rates and performance options. The AD9214BRS-105 boasts of a sampling rate of 105 MSPS, reportedly the fastest rate recorded by a commercial 10-bit, 3.3V ADC, while AD9214BRS-80 and AD9214BRS-65 operate at 80 and 65 MSPS, respectively. And all three devices guarantee no missing codes. Typical power dissipation for the ADCs with a 10.3-MHz input frequency is 190, 265 and 285 mW, respectively. In sleep mode, the devices consume only 30 mW. Applications for the AD9214 ADCs include battery-powered instruments, ultrasound equipment, broadband communication subsystems, cable reverse paths, home powerline modems, and wireless computer peripherals. Other features of the converters include wide analog input bandwidth up to 300 MHz and an input gain option to support either 1V or 2V peak-to-peak analog input signal swings. Packaged in a 28-pin SSOP, pricing in lots of 1,000 is $8.40 for the AD9214BRC-65, $9.75 for AD9214BRC-80, and $29.90 for AD9214BRC-105.
