By providing a single USB to RS-232 or RS-422/485/530 serial port, the new SeaLINK USB serial I/O products are able to provide USB connectivity to legacy or non-USB compliant devices. The adapters support standard PC data rates up to 460 kbps (RS-232) and up to 2 Mbps (RS-422/485/530) to provide the necessary horsepower for serial I/O applications. By simply connecting the adapter to a USB port, the device is immediately recognized by the system as a standard COM port. The user simply connects the adapter to the target device such as a modem, serial printer, scale, bar code or magnetic stripe reader.
The RS-422/485/530 adapter can be used to extend USB-enabled notebook PCs up to 5,000'. The adapters get their power from the USB cable, eliminating the need for wall power. The SeaLINK+232 is priced at $99; the SeaLINK+485 costs $129.
