Claiming to have the largest memory, fastest data rate, and longest read/write range in the industry, the MCRF45x family of passive, rewriteable RFID devices incorporate technology that was co-developed with Checkpoint Systems and Mitsubishi. Operating at 13.56 MHz, three devices in the family offer a variety of features. These include an option for an external resonance capacitor (MCRF450), a 100 pF on-chip resonance capacitor (MCRF451), dual 50 pF resonant capacitors for two antenna connections (MCRF452), and a 50 pF resonant capacitor (MCRF455). Other features include a 1 Kb memory, power consumption of 28 µW, and write speeds up to 20 tags per second. A developers kit, the DV 103005, is also available. Price for the RFIDs is $0.50 each/10,000 and the development kit is priced at $1,999. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (480) 792-7668.
