IEC Outlet Allows Hot Swapping Of Power Supplies To A Backplane

Oct. 1, 2001

A new IEC outlet is said to eliminate the need for a detachable line cord by providing power connection and disconnection of power supplies to a backplane with the power on. The outlets are screwed in or snap mounted, with snap mounting models fitting panels measuring 1.5 mm thick. Other thicknesses are available upon request. Screw-mounting types have 4 to 8 mm solder/quick connect terminals or 6.3 mm quick-connect terminals. The contacts sit about 22 mm behind the panel. Outlets are cUL 15A/250Vac and VDE 10A/250Vac approved as well as conforming to IEC/EN 60320-2-2/F Class I + II, with or without ground. Pricing starts at under $1 each/100.
