8-Pin Package Houses 1V High-Efficiency Step-Up Converter

Jan. 1, 2002

Capable of operating over a 0.6V to 5.5V input voltage range, the L6920 is a TSSOP8-packaged, high-efficiency synchronous step-up converter with a guaranteed start-up voltage of 1V. Targeted at products running off of one- to three-cell batteries, the step-up controller requires only three external components to create a device that can convert battery voltages to selected output voltages. The converter's synchronous rectifier is implemented with a 120 m½ P-channel MOSFET, and, to improve efficiency, variable frequency control circuitry is included on-chip. Other L6920 features include zero shut-down current, 3.3V and 5V fixed or adjustable output voltage (2V up to 5.2V), and low battery voltage detection.
