Self crowned as the industry's highest-performance 16-bit successive approximation a/d converter, the AD7677 Pul SAR is also touted as being twice as fast, twice as precise, and four times more power efficient than comparable devices on the market. The device is a fully differential converter that provides a 16-bit resolution with no missing codes and a maximum INL of 1 LSB. It has no pipeline delay and operates at three different speeds: 1 Msamples/s (warp 5 mode) for asynchronous sampling applications, 800 ksamples/s in normal mode, and an impulse mode, in which power consumption varies with the throughput rate. Signal-to-noise and distortion (SINAD) is 94 dB typical and 92 dB minimum. The device operates from a 5V supply, dissipates 115 mW typical, and consumes 7 µW in power-down mode. Temperature range is -40ûC to 85ûC. Available in a 9 mm x 9 mm, 48-lead LQFP, price is $39.76 each/1,000. ANALOG DEVICES, INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
