The company's recently announced 14-bit technology predicts d/a converters with conversion rates up to 1 Gsamples/s with a 14-bit resolution, both guaranteed. The technology has been developed using the company's advanced, mixed signal CS80 0.18 µm process, featuring triple-well extension. Initial devices incorporate an LVDS interface to drive the converter core directly and to allow full test and characterization. The prototype d/a converter comes in a proprietary, 120-ball enhanced fine-pitch ball grid array (EFBGA) package with thermal properties assisted by a thermal ball array positioned under the device. The package measures just 12 mm x 12 mm. Targeted applications for the technology include video systems, test equipment, and the cellular infrastructure market.
