DMM Plus Digitizer Breaks Measurement Speed Barriers

Oct. 1, 2002

Said to surpass industry-standard measurement speeds, the PXI-4070 FlexDMM combines a 6.5-digit digital multimeter (DMM) with a 1.8-Msample/s, isolated digitizer in a single-slot, 3U PXI module. The DMM has a continuously variable dc reading rate from 100 ksamples/s at 6.5 digits to 5 ksamples/s at 4.5 digits. Using LabVIEW and NI-DMM-driver software, users can extend resolution to seven digits at 5 samples/s. The DMM exhibits a dc voltage accuracy of six parts per million and sensitivity in the sub µV range. In its isolated digitizer mode, the meter’s ac- and dc-coupled inputs up to ±300V are processed at a maximum sample rate of 1.8 Msamples/s. Analysis of transients, flyback signals, and other non-repetitive, high-voltage ac waveforms are possible in both time and frequency domains. By employing a unique digital algorithm that automatically rejects dc components, ac measurements can be made at rates up to 2 ksamples/s. The FlexDMM also offers a self-calibration feature and can make offset compensated resistance measurements. Price starts at $1,995.
