One internal and four external Type A USB 2.0 ports can be added to computers by installing the COU 105P, a new, half-length PCI card that is compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and also supports Mac OS 8.6 or greater. Each port of the new PCI card is capable of moving data at a 480-Mbps pace and is fully backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices. In addition, with cascaded hubs, the five ports make it easy to connect as many as 127 USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices to the card. And because USB provides power to the bus, many USB devices can operate without additional power. Maximum allowable card-to-device cable length is 16.4' for 12 Mbps (USB 1.1) and 10' for 480 Mbps (USB 2.0). The COU 105P self-powered, hot-swappable PCI 5-port USB 2.0 card can output 500 mA (max.) at 5 Vdc per port, has an operating temperature range of 5°C to 40°C, and costs $95 each.
