SAW Clock Oscillator Sinks Teeth Into High-Dynamic-Range Apps

Dec. 19, 2012
Using proprietary circuitry and surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) resonator technology, Crystek Crystals designed a (SAW) clock oscillator (250-MHz variant) offering −153 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10-kHz offset and a noise floor of −173 dBc/Hz.
Using proprietary circuitry and surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) resonator technology, Crystek Crystals designed a (SAW) clock oscillator (250-MHz variant) offering −153 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10-kHz offset and a noise floor of −173 dBc/Hz. The CCSO-914X 250-to-1090-MHz device, with 3.3- and 5-V input voltage available, generates a true sine wave with +8 dBm minimum output power. There are no sub-harmonics, and the second harmonic is −20 dBc typical. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to +85°C. The oscillator comes in a 9- by-14-mm surface-mount package. The CCSO-914X-250.000 has been verified with Analog Devices’ AD9467 16-bit, monolithic, IF-sampling analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Beyond ADCs, applications include system clocks for network clock generators/synchronizers, clocks for DDS, test and measurement, avionics, and point-to-point and multipoint radios.
