PFC Controller Operates In Critical Conduction Mode

Active PFC controller integrates a number of safety features and functions for off-line power conversion. The controller is ideally suited for PFC applications that operate in critical conduction mode.

The AOZ7111 active power factor correction controller from AOS, the first in a new line of PFC devices, integrates a number of safety features and functions for off-line power conversion. The controller is ideally suited for PFC applications that operate in critical conduction mode such as SMPS, LCD TVs, LED and ballast lighting, and ac-dc adapters. Combining an ac input voltage fault detection function with an internal closed-loop soft-start allows a well managed current ramp-up. This feature prevents large inrush currents during the system's startup and reset operations. The secondary OVP function also makes the system more robust and reliable, and zero current detection feature eliminates the need for an auxiliary winding to reduce system cost. Other features include boost topology and variable frequency operation. Packaged in a Halogen free and RoHS compliant SOIC-8, the AOZ7111 active PFC controller is immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 12 weeks. The unit price is $0.49 each/1,000.
