Development Board Targets Ultra-Low-Power Portable Applications

March 7, 2013
Evaluation kit for the Precision32 SiM3L1xx low power 32 bit ARM MCU family is touted as user-friendly development platform for ultra-low-power portable applications.

Silicon Labs’ new BADGER-SiM3L1-EK evaluation kit for the Precision32 SiM3L1xx low power 32 bit ARM MCU family is being touted as a user-friendly development platform for ultra-low-power portable applications. Roughly the same size of an ID badge, the supercapacitor-charged PCB highlights the power efficiency of SiM3L1xx ARM MCUs in an LCD-based system. The board contains an SiM3L1xx MCU, segmented LCD with charge redistribution architecture, supercapacitor, LED, optical sensor, debug interface and USB port, and is capable of displaying information continuously on the LCD for up to three days from just a 90-second charge using a USB cable. Using the USB connector and debug/program interface, developers can connect the board to a PC and use the Precision32 IDE for software development. Other features include multiple on-chip power rails with dynamic voltage scaling, accessible pins on standard spacing, and breadboard area to aid in prototyping.
