Step Attenuator Boosts High-End Audio Performance

June 5, 2014
Low-profile audio attenuators provide 47 positions with selectable end-stops from 1 to 6 channels, boast high-end volume control, superb sonic performance and precise switch feel.

The A47 audio attenuator from Elma is a switch designed specifically to provide high-end volume control, superb sonic performance and precise switch feel. First in a new series of PCB-based audio switches, these low-profile (36 x 36 mm) attenuators provide 47 positions with selectable end-stops from 1 to 6 channels. Featuring Elma’s hallmark indexing feel for superior tactile feedback, the series also offers switching torques of 1.5 to 5 Ncm as standard and are populated with low-noise, high precision SMT resistors offering standard input impedances of 10 k, 25 k, 50 k, 100 k or 600 Ω. The standard version is for 1/8th to 1/2-watt resistors, and a “jumbo” PCB version is for audiophiles that prefer the sound quality of larger wattage resistors. The new audio switches are suited for mixing desks and outboard studio equipment as well as for high-end home audio and theater configurations. Available with pre-populated thin-film SMT resistors or in non-populated THT versions, pricing for the A47 audio attenuator starts at $85 for a single channel version or $165 for dual channel.
