Chip Resistors Repel Moisture

Jan. 14, 2011
The RNCS Series passivated nichrome chip resistor offers performs reliably in harsh, damp environments that only high-cost technologies such as tantalum nitride resistors could survive.

The RNCS Series passivated nichrome chip resistor offers performs reliably in harsh, damp environments that only high-cost technologies such as tantalum nitride resistors could survive. RNCS components employ a proprietary nichrome alloy and hydrophobic polymer inner passivation that allows them to perform at least as well as tantalum nitride resistors in 3,000-hour humidity testing at low power loading. Other features include sizes from 0402 to 2512, resistance values from 10? to 1 M?, 0.1% tolerances, and ±25 ppm TCRs. Pricing varies from around $20 to $288 per 1,000.
